Girls & Boys Toys

Basically this is a page dedicated to 'Petrolheads' everywhere. Put succinctly, if it has an internal combustion engine then we are interested in it. I passed my driving test back in the mid 70's at the ripe old age of 17. A succession of old bangers were inevitably restored and personalised.

Living in London in the 1970's meant a pilgrimage to the Chelsea Cruise every last Saturday of the month. The custom car craze had hit the UK big time and the Kings Road was the place to show off your pride and joy. My shoestring budget efforts are way too embarrassing to display here for the world to see but I'll have you know one of my projects, 'That Mini', was quite a celebrity in its time. The 1980's spawned the yuppie era and sports cars became the 'must have' accessory of the decade. As a late adopter, mine served me well as a primary vehicle right through the 90's and is still with me today. It gets very little use anymore as we acquired a second, eminently more practical, vehicle for the environment we now live in.

Motorcycles didn't figure in our lives until 1998 and this, in the most part, is down to Bronwyn. A chance pillion ride on a bike and there was just no looking back for her. Realising she could reduce her 9-mile daily commute by bus from nearly 2 hours each way down to around 20 minutes by bike, a motorcycle licence was obtained pretty damned quick. The prospect of a new toy arriving with which I couldn't play was unthinkable so I was forced to take the test as well. Riding bikes in London does carry a health risk so to further tune our abilities we both put ourselves through the Institute of Advanced Motorist's course and passed their Advanced Motorcycling Test.

We've put the toys into appropriate categories. Hope you like what you see.
