Living
at Sunnymead is a bit like being on that holiday you never want to end. Nearly
three years on I still wake up in the morning wondering if today's the day I
have to go home. I was stunned to realise birds come in colours other than brown
and black. On a clear night the absence of any light pollution allows you to get
about by starlight alone. Without the continual background traffic noise the
silence can be absolutely deafening! The undisputed best time of the day is at
sunrise. The dawn chorus coupled with rays of sunshine breaking through the
low-lying mist is a truly magical experience.
Bronwyn says....
Growing
up in Australia, I had always taken open space for granted. Initially, as an
Aussie abroad, London had a hypnotic effect on me. It really did seem to be the
centre of the world. All the famous musicals and plays I'd read about back home
were being performed just a stone's throw away from my workplace in the West
End. The sights, sounds and smells really were light years away from Hoppers
Crossing. But after a while, like so many Londoners, I started to become rather blasé
about my environment and began to yearn for a slower pace of life. In 2001 the horrors
of September 11th decimated the long-haul travel industry in which I worked forcing
companies to merge to survive. I was a boardroom casualty of such a merger as no
company needs two sets of Directors. The resultant 'golden handshake' proved to
be the icing on the cake as at that time I was already well advanced in my
secret plan to "escape to the country".
